IMPORTANT TEST DATES TO REMEMBER

In years past the New York Sate English Language Arts test took place during this month for grades 3-7. The test has been moved to April 2010. The ELA testing dates will take place from April 26-April 28 2010.

Hooray! Hooray! It's New Year's Day

Hooray! Hooray! It's New Year's Day!
The day we start anew.
So this year I've decided
to become a kangaroo.

Or maybe I will learn to fly,
or how to walk through walls,
or how to turn invisible,
or surf on waterfalls.

I'll make myself elastic
and I'll teach myself to shrink.
I'll turn into a liquid
and I'll pour me down the sink.

I'll visit other planets
and meet aliens galore.
I'll travel to the distant past
and ride a dinosaur.

I've got so many wondrous plans.
I'm starting right away.
Yes, this will be the best year yet.
Hooray! It's New Year's Day!

word links

Have your child say the first word that comes into his/her mind.
Ex. Pencil

Write the word in the first circle. Now the parent must write down the first word that comes into your mind when you think of the word pencil. You write hand in the second circle. Ask your child what word does hand bring to his/her mind. Your child might answer foot, which goes in the third circle. Foot makes you think of run. What does run make your child think of? Keep writing the reponses by taking turns filling inthe circles.

This creates a train of thought traveling from pencil to thunder. Read the words together and see what power-packed words you can come up with. It is a simple yet fun reading game to play with your child.
